A PAIR OF GEORGE III MAHOGANY SIDE CHAIRSIRISH, CIRCA 176597cm high, 58cm wide, 52cm deepCondition Report: Marks, scratches and abrasions comensurate with age and use. Some old cracks, chips and splits, some old repairs. The timber appears closer to that which has been known as 'red walnut' . It has a grain associated with walnut but the red colour of mahogany. Good colour and patina overall with some fading as expected for age and use. The cresting rails (top rail of each) is lighter in colour, particularly of one which has previously had some old cracks/ breaks through it (see images) . The colour could be improved again by being attended to by a restorer. On closer inspection, the cut of timber and figuring to it varies from the timber to the remainder of the chair. It seems possible that the timber was selected to use in that position. Some small nails have been used to secure elements such as the repair of one top rail of one chair and the 'shoe' pieces at the base of each back splat (see images) Some old worm damage (see images) none weakens the overall structure of the element it affects. The seat rails underlying the upholstery are not visible so we cannot guarantee their originality at this stage. Please contcat us if it is vital you know the originality/ see images Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition. Condition Report Disclaimer
