A MOUNTED WAKIZASHI
Japan, dated 1744

The blade:
Shinogi-zukuri with iori mune. The hamon with balanced notare. The hada is masame to itame. The nakago (tang) with two mekugi-ana, the tip is kurijiri. One side shows an inscription dating the sword to ‘Enkyo, 2nd year, 8th month’, corresponding to 1744, while the other shows Bishu Osafune ju (‘lives in Bishu Osafune’), with the name of the swordsmith below being illegible.
NAGASA 55.5 cm, blade LENGTH 67.7 cm, total LENGTH 76 cm  
Condition: The blade and mounting are in very good condition with minor traces of surface wear and faults. The kozuka is missing.
