Blaeu (Willem), Nova Totius Terrarum Orbis Geographica ac Hydrographica Tabula, Amsterdam, circa 1630, hand-coloured map of the world on a Mercator projection, engraved by Josua van den Ende two inset circular maps of the poles, the vertical margins with allegorical representations of the four seasons and the four elements, the upper horizontal margin with representations of the planets and the lower with vignettes of the seven 'wonders of the ancient world', small printer's fold to the lower right corner, central fold with small areas of professional restoration to the verso, 405 x 545 mm, German text on verso QTY: (1) NOTE: R. W. Shirley. The Mapping of the World, number 255, state 4. The state can be identified by Terra del Fuego shown as an island, Fretum le Maire added and the title now concludes ‘auct: Guiljelmo Blaeuw' and the lower right-hand cartouche concludes 'Guili Blaeuw' and the date of 1606 is omitted. One of the finest and most famous world maps to appear during the Golden Age of Dutch cartography.
