The highest grade awarded by NGC, the only example in this grade. Excessively rare in this high grade.
Rare and highly desirable, with rich tones. An example of this coin, certified and graded by NGC as Proof 66 sold at auction earlier this year for a hammer price of £7,750.
This is the penny from a 1839 proof set which is offered across this auction. The half sovereign (lot 16), shilling (lot 29), sixpence (lot 31), groat (lot 32), Maundy set (lot 34), penny (lot 38), halfpenny (lot 40) and farthing (lot 43) are offered within this sale, while the sovereign, crown and halfcrown were sold in Baldwin's of St. James's auction 27 in New York for $23,000, $65,000 and $19,500 respectively.
