Large Cents
1810/09 S-281 R1 Overdate 10 over 09 AU Detail, Repaired, PCGS. Sharpness EF40 or slightly better but lightly burnished and expertly retoned glossy chocolate and light olive brown. This cent has excellent eye appeal in spite of the delicately smoothed surfaces. No corrosion or verdigris, and the only marks are a pair of thin, light nicks in the field before the mouth and another right of star 2. Nicely struck E-MDS, Breen state III. The overdate feature is clear. Graded VF35 net VF25 and tied for CC#34 in the Noyes census, his photo #39053. This cataloger's EAC grade is net VF35. A beautiful but slightly "improved" Turban Head cent. The attribution and Husak Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Three highest graded at PCGS: 1 in 62, 2 in 64. 36469.98/40135461.

A native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, March Wells, Jr., was born in 1928 and died in 2019. He began collecting Lincoln cents during his Illinois childhood. He spent most of his life in Kentucky. Wells developed an interest in large cents after purchasing some middle date pieces from John Ashby. Superior sold his middle date cents in February 2000, and Goldberg Auctions sod his early date cents in February 2009. Wells joined Early American Coppers in 1978 and served as the organization's president from 1999 to 2002.
