Brant, "Branta bernicla" JW 37 slight soiling, a few rubbed spots, a tear in the lower edge (backed with paper) sheet 25 5/8 by 38 in.; 650 by 967 mm. Based on a composition perhaps painted in Philadelphia in 1824. "The flesh of this bird I consider as excellent food. The young in autumn, or about the time of their first appearance on our eastern coast, Massachusetts for example, are tender, juicy, and fat; and are as well known to the epicures of Boston as the more celebrated Canvass-back is to those of Baltimore.".
