A carved wood figure of St Barbara, presumably Bavaria, around 1480
Carved in the round. With partially overpainted older polychromy. Depiction of the saint standing in contrapposto, to be viewed from a slightly lowered viewpoint. St Barbara is depicted crowned and with her attribute, the tower, beside her. The quality of this sculpture is especially evident in the way in which the cloak drapes around the figure's body and the precise rendering of the saint's long, curling tresses.
With a narrow vertical crack on the reverse. Losses to the crown, the hands presumably replaced. Wear throughout. Includes a modern round wooden plinth. Height 98 cm.

Holz, vollrund geschnitzt. Ältere farbige Fassung, in Teilen übergangen. Auf leichte Unteransicht gestaltete Darstellung der im Kontrapost stehenden bekrönten Heiligen, der als kennzeichnendes Attribut zu ihrer Seite ein Turm beigegeben ist. Die Qualität der Ausführung zeigt sich besonders in der Gestaltung des Faltenfalls des um den Körper drapierten Mantels wie auch in der minutiösen Wiedergabe der über den Rücken herabfallenden langen Haare der Heiligen.
Vertikaler schmaler Riss auf der Rückseite. Krone mit Verlusten. Hände wohl ergänzt. Bestoßungen. Zugehörig ein moderner hölzerner Rundsockel. Höhe 98 cm.
