Rock Ptarmigan, "Lagopus mutus." White-tailed Ptarmigan, "Lagopus leucurus" JW 38 16 3/4 by 23 in.; 427 by 586 mm. Based on a composition composed of two drawings probably executed in 1838 in London. The bird at left was drawn from a specimen lent to Audubon by Lord Stanley, fourteenth Earl of Derby. The other was probably drawn from a specimen at the Zoological Society, London.
