λ TEN INDIAN IVORY PORTRAIT MINIATURES OF EMINENT SIKH FIGURESDelhi School and Punjab, Northern India, mid to late 19th centuryOpaque pigments heightened with gold on ivory medallions, depicting three profile portraits and seven three-quarter portraits of distinguished Sikh and Mughal figures, including rulers, their consorts, courtiers, advisors, ministers, and military commanders like Maharaja Ranjit Singh (1780 - 1839), his Maharani Jinda Kaur (1817 - 1863), the Prime Minister Lal Singh (in office 8 November 1845 – 31 January 1846), the Mughal princess Mumtaz Mahal, and many others, each sitter identified by old hand-written labels at the back, the portraits mounted on gold cardboard, glazed and set onto two different frames with red velvet-lined pads in the front, each miniature approximately 5cm x 7cm, 35.5cm x 30.5cm including the frame (x 2).
