"Hesperiphona vespertina." Black-headed Grosbeak, "Pheucticus melanocephalus" JW 37 fine, fresh impression 19 3/4 by 13 3/4 in.; 502 by 315 mm. Based on a composition painted in Charleston during the winter of 1836- -37. The birds were probably drawn by Audubon's son, John. Maria Martin provided the drawing of the butterfly.
