THE BIRDS OF AMERICA: ENGRAVED TITLE PAGE TO VOLUME IIII Signed by the artist 'Autograph of John James Audubon Baltimore Feb'y 29th 1840', a long tear in the lower margin, smaller tears and discoloration in the edges, one into the platemark at lower left, repaired with scotch tape, a vertical crease within the plate at left (not affecting the engraved lettering, reinforced with paper on the verso), a few soft diagonal creases at upper right, slight soiling and rippling, split and with glue stains along disbound edge sheet 970 by 640 mm. 38 1/8 by 25 1/4 in.
